Buying a computer desk
There are a number of things that you need to keep in mind when buying a desk for a computer. First, you need to know what type of computer you will have: a laptop or a desktop? Laptops normally just need space to sit them on the desk and open them up. Desktops need space for both a monitor and the computer. Some desks come with specific spaces for the computer. Having enough space to set everything up and work comfortable is very important. As long as you have a comfortable set-up, most everything else is just details.
If you have a monitor, you need to make sure you have room for it. Especially these days when large monitors are common, you need to make sure you have enough space for the monitor. If you want a hutch on the top of your desk for extra storage you need to make sure it is tall enough for you monitor to fit.
Another consideration is a keyboard. Many desks come a special keyboard drawer, or space for the keyboard. If you will be doing a lot of typing, or have concerns with your wrists you should make sure that the keybord can sit at a comfortable level, and if necessary, be adjustable.
A chair is also an important decision when buying office furniture. A comfortable and ergonomic desk chair can make your work much more pleasant. A basic office chair that is adjustable and supportive can be very helpful. Make sure that it works for you and that it works with the desk you select.
One final consideration is making sure you have room for other accessories. Do you have a printer, a scanner, an iPod? For some people a simple, classic table-top desk will work great. Other people may want all of the nooks and crannies that come with a traditional computer desk. Most people will have a strong prefernce of style vs. functionality that will drive their decision. If you have a large number of devices you may also want to consider having somewhere to hide all of your cables.
